.

.

.

.

supply the necessary water. Portions of the system are susceptible

to contamination by rodents and fertilizers washed periodically

into the collection system"
Due to the rapid influx of population in the last two to three
years, and expected increase of population in the near future, the

town's antiquated system has to be improved so that it will con-

tinually produce potable water consistent with the latest Federal

and state Drinking Water Standards.

CURRENT STATUS
On November 19, 1975, the town of Grand Valley submitted an

application to the Colorado Water conservation Board for state

assistance in the construction of improvements to their existing

water system. subsequently, the Board and the town entered into

a contract with Plateau Engineering, Inc., Grand Junction, Colorado,

to prepare a feasibility report for improvements to their present

water system" The report has now been completed and constitutes

the basis for the recommendations contained herein.

PROPOSED PROJECT

The town, at present, derives its water from a series of

springs along a bluff south of the Colorado River. Water is col-

lected and transported to town in a six-inch water line for distri-

bution and storage. However, the source of water for the springs

originates from a combination of surface waters tributary to

,Battlement Creek and Monument Gulch and from irrigation waters out

of Battlement Creek.

, -2-
