<br />The Oolores Projecl,.(authorlzedSeptember30. 1968} (PL
<br />90-537), located in the Dolores and San Juan River Basins
<br />In southwestern Colorado, will dewlop water from the
<br />Dolores River for Irrigation. mu~icipal and,industrlal use,
<br />recreation. and fiSh and wildlife, It wlll also provide flood
<br />control and aid In area economic redevelopment ServiCe
<br />will be provided to three areas: the northwest Dove Creek
<br />area. 27,860 acres; Montezuma Valley center area, 26,300
<br />acres; and south to the Towaoc area, 7,500 acres, on the
<br />Ute Mountain Ute Indian Reservation.
<br />Primary storage of Dolores River flows for all project
<br />purposes will be provided by McPhee Reservoir, formed
<br />by McPhee Dam and Great Cut DIke. Secondary storage
<br />. for municipal and Industrial waler will be furnished by
<br />;Monument Creek Reservoir located near the town of Dove
<br />Creek, which will receive water diverted from McPhee
<br />Reservoir. ,
<br />.Dawson Draw ~ir, located west 01 McPhee Reser-
<br />voir. will be constructed specifically for fish and wildlife
<br />,and wHt b8 supplied primarily fron\ IrriQatlon I'l!lurn flows. .
<br />An average annual supply of 90,900 acre-leet of water will
<br />be provided to 27,860 acres of fullll8fVice land in the Dove
<br />Creek area, 7,500 acres of full service land in the T owaoc
<br />area. and 27.300 acres ohupplementel service land in the
<br />. 'Montezuma Valley area. Water Iorthe QoveCreek area will

<br />be pumped from McPhee Reservoir by the Gre8tCut
<br />Pumping Plant and conveyed 39,5 miles through the Dove
<br />Creek Canal and its 7,6-mile branch, the South Canal.
<br />'Water for the ToYiaoc area wUl be conveyed 48 miles from '
<br />the reservoir by the Dolores Tunnel and the Dolores and
<br />Towaoc canals. Both. areas will be sel'Ved' by sprinkler
<br />irrigation systems, The Montezuma Valley area will be
<br />sel'Ved by releases at Great Cut Dike and the Dolores
<br />Tunnel and Canal to an exiSting ,gravity distribution
<br />system.
