.

THE NORTH POUDRE IRRIGATION COMPANY

Reservoir No. 2

INTRODUCTION

.

The North Poudre Irrigation Company operates, 20

reservoir storage facilities and approximately 200 miles of

irrigation canals. The reservoirs store approximately 64,413

acre feet of water. Reservoir No. 2 is one of the storage

facilities. It is located approximately 1.5 miles Northwest of

the Town of Wellington in Larimer County.

The reservoir has a decree for 3,880 acre feet of

storage with a priority date of August 1901. Refill decrees

were granted in 1921.

The reservoir is very valuable as it is normally a

"sure filler" and there are many stockholders served by it.

PROBLEM

The reservoir is impounded by two (2) earth dams
which were originally constructed in 1890 and subsequently
raised to their present height in 1901. The dams are both rel-
atively homogeneous earthfill embankments with a height of 27
feet at the maximum section. The combined crest length of both
dams is 2,000 feet. There are two (2) emergency spillways; one
(1) on the right abutment of the West dam and the major spill-
way being on the left abutment of the East dam. The outlet
works consist of a corrugated metal outlet conduit three feet
(3 ') in diameter with a wetwell and control gate located up-
. stream of the dam crest.
