.

.

.

COLORADO WATER CONSERVATION BOARD
721 State Centennial Building
1313 Sherman Street
Denver, Colorado 80203

January 15, 1985

SAN MIGUEL WATER CONSERVANCY DISTRICT -- PHASE 2

SAN MIGUEL WATER CONSERVANCY DISTRICT

Introduction

The San Miguel Water Conservancy District Project is located
in San Miguel and Montrose Counties in southwestern Colorado. At
present there are four major collection and distribution systems
that irrigate land in the area. The four systems are:

(a) The J & M Hughes Ditch, which originates on Fall Creek
above Wood Lake and irrigates land on Beaver Mesa. This
system has no storage facility.

(b) The Farmers Water Development Company, which operates the
Gurley Ditch system and irrigates land in the Norwood-
Redvale area. Gurley Reservoir is operated in conjunc-
tion with this system.

(c)

The Lone Cone Ditch Company, which operates a system
similar to (b) above and collects runoff from the
lJOutfl\/eBt flank of Lone Cone Mountain. The system
,irrigates land south of Norwood in the same vicinity as
the land irrigated under (b) above. Lone Cone Reservoir
is operated in conjunction with this system.

tJw

(d) The Lilylands system, which supplies water to East
Lilylands and to the east end of Dry Creek Basin. The
water supply for this system is collected from the west
flank of Lone Cone Mountain. Lilylands Reservoir is
operated in conjunction with this system.

It is proposed that the San Miguel Water Conservancy District
project proceed in two phases. Phase 1 would involve the
enlargement of Lone Cone Reservoir and associated repair and
rehabilitation work. A feasibility report has been completed for
this work and the Board recommends that it be independently
authorized for construction. A separate project summary has been
prepared on the Lone Cone Reservoir enlargement.

The balance of the project, to be known as phase 2, will
consist of enlargement of and repairs to the other three systems
cited above. This summary covers phase 2 of the project.

218
sm/wp
