The reservoirs store approximately 64,413 acre-feet of
water. Reservoir No. 15 is one of the storage facilities. It
is located approximately 15 miles northwest of the Town of
Wellington in LarimeF County.
.

The reservoir has a decree for 5,463 acre-feet of storage
with a priority date of April, 1909. Refill decrees were granted
in 1924.

Problem

The dam and spillway were originally constructed in 1909.
The embankment is a homogeneous earthfill dam 49 feet high at the
maximum section, with a crest length of 3,700 feet. There is an
emergency spillway which is 50 feet wide in the right abutment.
The outlet works consist of a cast-in-place concrete arch 3 feet
wide and 4 feet high. The upstream portion and gate well of this
outlet works were reconstructed in 1948-1949. The downstream
portion of the outlet is still the original 1909 construction.

The upstream face of the embankment was initially
constructed to a 3:1 slope. However, excessive erosion has
resulted in over steepening of the face ~o nearly a 1:1 slope.
This has occurred due to displacement of fill material from below
the riprap face. When the reservoir is filled, excessive seepage
has been noted below the toe of the dam, including boggy areas
several hundred feet away from the toe of the dam.

For the past few years, the deterioration of these
structures has been of concern to both the owner and the State
Engineer. The State Engineer's Office has issued a restriction
upon this reservoir limiting storage to 2.2 feet below maximum
storage capacity. If this facility is not repaired, increased
restrictions may be placed on the reservoir resulting in
additional loss of stored water to the irrigators. It is
estimated that for each year the dam is not repaired the Company
will lose about 2300 acre-feet of water.

i, \ I

~, l '

I
i \ \

( i

305
npr

\/
