.

Each scenario has differing implications for growth patterns within Denver's service
area. Of the four, the "compact" growth scenario predicts the most rapid growth within
Denver's service area, while the "dispersed growth scenario" leads to the slowest growth
because most growth would be taking place outside Denver's service area. Denver Water
chose these scenarios to bracket the expected growth of its customers.

.

To extend the DRCOG forecast from 2020 to 2045, projected national census growth
rates for the 1990-2020 period were compared to the DRCOG regional growth rates. The
ratio between the two was used to adjust projected national census growth rates through
2045 to estimate regional growth during that period. Figure IV-2 compares the
population forecasts for the service area under the "compact," "dispersed," and "final"
growth scenarios for Denver's Combined (Treated Water) Service Area. There currently
are another 100,000 people beyond this service area supported with raw water Denver is
supplying through fixed/special contracts (see below). That population will expand to
roughly 200,000 people by 2045, resulting in a total of 1.5 to 1.6 million people on
Denver's water by that time.

.

.

.

.

.

1,600,000
1,400,000
= 1,200,000
.::
..
-= 1,000,000
c.
=
Q.
800,000
600,000
400,000
200,000
0

.

.

.

.

Figure IV-2

Population - 2045
Treated Water Service A rea

_ Suburban Service Area
- Denver

699,548

630,204

720,818

625,142

754,647

555,093

Dispersed

Compact

Scenario

DRCOG Scenarios

27
