<br />24 <br /> <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br /> <br />as well as to furnish a supplemental supply of water for lands <br />now under irrigation, is of vital importance to the growth <br />and development of the entire district and the welfare of all <br />its inhabitants and that to promote the health and general <br />welfare of the state of Colorado an appropriate agency for <br />the conservation, use and development of the water resources <br />of the Colorado river and its principal tributaries should be <br />established and given such pow~rs as may be necessary to safe- <br />guard for Colorado, all waters to which the state of Colorado <br />is equitably entitled under the Colorado river compact. (1937). <br /> <br />150-7-2. District bOdy corporate - area. - That there is <br />hereby created a water conservation district to be known and <br />designated as "The Colorado River Water Conservation Dis':' <br />trict." Such district is hereby declared to be a body cor- <br />porate under the laws of Colorado. Said district shall <br />comprise the following area and territory of the state of <br />Colorado: Grand county, Routt county, Moffat county, Rio <br />Blanco county, Ouray county, Mesa county, Garfield county, <br />Pitkin county, Eagle county, Delta county, Gunnison county, <br />Summit county, those parts of Hinsdale and Saguache counties <br />lying west and north of the continental divide and being with- <br />in the drainage basin of the Gunnison river, and that part of <br />Montrose county not included in the Southwestern water con- <br />servation district as set forth and described in section <br />150-8-2. (1961) . <br /> <br />150-7-3. Board of directors. - (1) The Colorado river <br />water conservation district shall be managed and controlled by <br />a board of fifteen directors. One of said directors shall be <br />from each of the respective counties in said district. He <br />shall be selected by the board of county commissioners of the <br />county in which he resides. He.may be a member of the board <br />of county commissioners of such county. He shall have been a <br />resident of such county, or if only a part of a county is in- <br />cluded within the boundaries of the said district, then a <br />resident of such included part, for a period of at least two <br />years prior to the date of his appointment and shall be a <br />freeholder who has paid taxes in the county of his residence <br />during the calendar year next preceding his appointment. The <br />members of said board shall hold office for a term of three <br />years and until their successors are appointed and qualified, <br />except as herein otherwise provided. The regular term of <br />office of each director shall commence on the third Tuesday of <br />January following his appointment. The board of county com- <br />missioners of the county in which a director, whose term of <br />office is about to expire, resides, shall, at its first <br />
