No new data was collected or de-
veloped as part of this project.

The information in this report has been compiled from three types
of information sources:

. Published reports from federal and state agencies
. 1996 Colorado Water Needs Survey
. Interviews with representatives of key Colorado water agen-
cies and users

Pertinent published reports are referenced in the report sections
in which they were used.

The 1996 the Colorado Water Needs Survey was prepared by
Montgomery Watson on behalf of the Colorado Farm Bureau. It
was distributed to 150 agencies representing all of the signifi-
cant water users in the state. This included 60 municipal water
development agencies, 49 water conservancy districts, 3 conser-
vation districts, 24 water districts, 9 state agencies, and several
private water developers.

A sample of the survey form is contained in Appendix A. The
survey sought to gather information on the following subjects:

. Agency characteristics (service area, population, type of cus-
tomers)
. Existing and projected water demands
. Normal and dry year yields of existing sources of supply
. Estimated future water requirements
. Currently proposed water development projects
. Threats to present sources of supply
. Interest in participating in statewide water planning efforts

Of the 150 surveys distributed, 53 were returned (35% return
rate.) Figure I summarizes the breakdown ofreturned surveys.
Due to the nature of the questions, not all respondents fully com-
pleted the survey. Contacts were made with the larger munici,
palities and water agencies (those serving populations over
10,000) in order to improve the return rate from these larger us-

2-1

__ COLoraDo
,._ Farm Bureau
