.

.

.

of these, the Town and the School District, with one more expected nex1:
year. This equates to $13,500 in total income per season.

EXPENSES
The Town's 60 shares of water, at $20.00 each totals $1,200.00 expenditure
for water. At the present time, the Town water department pays this
expense. Income from tap sales is used for system expansion. The money
tor system expansion covers the costs of pipe, valves and valve boxes. This
covers about 10 blocks or 4,000 feet of pipe. Taps are paid for with a tap
fee of$300.00 which covers the expense of tapping saddle, male-by-flare
adapter and length of service to property line. The Town's goal was to
complete the raw water system within a four year period. Approximately
two thirds has been completed.

CONCLUSIONS
This project has more than doubled the water treatment plant's lite
expectancy, It has allowed the Town to add 50 new customers on our
domestic (potable) water. The Town has the capability of doubling its
consumer base, depending on commercial users. This project has lowered
overall operating expenses at treatment plant. Landscaping at the Town
Park and the schools athletic tacilities which would have been lost at a major
detriment to the community, have been continued. The project has been
very benetlcial in terms of community support and effort,

OVERALL
This project has demonstrated to the Town ofNucla many of the principles
of water conservation and beneficial uses. The project will eventually utilize
a three million gallon reservoir for settling and tlltering. It is hoped this will
help with increased oxygen levels and cooler water for aquatic life at the
Rainbow Reservoir. The project helped in the adoption of the Uniform
Plumbing Code, which allows only low tlow tlx1:ures and procedures for
reuse. The project has also demonstrated to the Town Board how valuable
potable water is, Implemented low flow sprinkler heads at Town Park and
schools athletic fields. The project furthered the Town's endeavors to make
water more available to users outside of the Town limits. (Some people still
must get their water from ditch or have it hauled to their residences). The
residential metering of untreated water would probably have been an

4
