Each of these win be addressed.

Structure of Water. The Hoffinan apparatus is used in all of my science and cleclronics classes
now to support the lecture on the structure of water and the characteristics of hydrogen and
oxygen. The hydrogen gas in put in an egg shell and exploded as a final demonslration of the
energy that can be' obtained from hydrogen as a fuel.

States of Water - solid. Iiauid. gas. All sixth grade classes are shown the temperature curves of
water from minus-l0 degrees F. to boiling and then a decay CutW to room temperature. These
curves are developed using a computer so the students see it happen. They are tested by having to
take a copy of the graph, without labels or titles, and explain all that is presented on the graph.

Water Cycle. Students are led through the life of an ice cl)'Stallocated in the hills north west of
Leadville, Colorado. This crystal melts and becomes part of the flow in the Arkansas, River until it
is picked up at the Otero Pumping Station and moved into the Colorado Springs water system. The
water of the little crystal then goes through a number of activities to include water processing, in
home use, waste lreatment, effluent in Fountain Creek, evaporation, freezing, and falling back in
the hills near Leadville.

Water Treatment. Starting this year students win be taken on a tour of the Woodmoor water
treatment facility,

Waste Treatment. All students are taken for a tour of a waste lreatment plant.

Water Testing. This activity is planned to begin during school year 1995-1996, Bach Water Test
Kits win be purchased. I win attend lraining at the Hach Company in the use of these kits,
