<br />SOIL PREPARATION: <br /> <br />L All new grass and ground cover areas and those scheduled for renovation shall receive a <br />minimum of 3 cubic yards of pure organic material for each 1.000 square feet to be planted. <br />Where soils are composed of 60% or more sand, 5 cubic yards of organic material shall be <br />tilled to a 6" minimum depth. Acceptable organic matter shaH include aged manures, <br />Canadian peat moss, saw dust or wood chips or humus. <br /> <br />2, Backfill for shrub and tree planting pits shall be improved with 1/3 organic matter and 2/3 <br />existing soiL <br /> <br />MULCHING <br /> <br />L All planting beds shall receive a layer of organic or inorganic mulch as specified herein. A <br />2".4" layer of gravel or rock mulch shall be placed over weed barrier, or 3". 6" layer of <br />organic mulch (ground wood, aspen humus, sheep and peat, etc.) shall be used without weed <br />barrier. No weed barrier shaH be allowed in shrub beds, perennial beds and all ground cover <br />areas. Plans should be designed to provide approximately 60 to 75 percent of the mulch area <br />with cover from live plant material within 5 years of planting. <br /> <br />2. Low water consuming grasses such as fescue, rye, wheatgrass, and buffalo shall be specified <br />for all turf areas, Low water using shrubs. plants, and trees shall be planted, <br /> <br />MAINTENANCE: <br /> <br />L The City and County should conduct a bi-annual training program on landscaping water <br />efficiencies for employees managing or maintaining all public open space. Full time, <br />seasonal and contract employees shall attend seminars on water efficient irrigation and <br />landscaping materials and practices. <br /> <br />Plumbing Fixture Requirements <br />OBJECTIVES: <br /> <br />. To require the specific use of water saving plumbing fixtUres for all new buildings and <br />replacement of plumbing in existing buildings <br /> <br /> <br />All interior plumbing in new buildings and replacement of plumbing in existing buildings shaH <br />meet the foHowing requirements. <br /> <br />water closets shall be designed to not exceed a flow rate of 3.5 gaHons per flush, <br /> <br />2, Where flushorneter valves are used, such flushometer valves shall be the least water-using <br />type found to be safe and reliable. The use of automatic time flush devices is prohibited. <br />Trough urinals shall not have continuous flow flushing. <br /> <br />3. All commercial lavatories shall be equipped with spring loaded faucets that close when not <br />in use or faucets that are equipped with metering valves that close automatically after <br />delivering a maximum of .25 gallons, except for required handicapped facilities which may <br />be equipped with faucets designed for the handicapped. <br /> <br />6.
