Nearly all of the original
meters are still in service. Based on tests run by City staff, the accuracy of the original
meters averages 84 percent. Given this degree of accuracy, the recent water sales shown
above are probably understated.

Existing CORsen'at;IJn Effof'ts-------------------
Existing conservation efforts consist chiefly of ordinances concerning the use of
meters and wasting of water, bill inserts to customers identified with a high water usage,
repair and maintenance leak detection efforts by the water distribution staff and a low-
water use demonstration garden by the Parks Department. The ordinances that apply to
water conservation are in Chapter 13 of the City code and are summarized as follows:

Section 13.04.093

Requires water meters in residential,
and industrial properties by January I,

commercial
1981.

City of Brighton, Colorado
March 1997.34619.100

Report on Water
Conservation Plan

3
