The kit should <br />consist of a dye tablet and a one-page water audit to be completed <br />by the customer. <br /> <br />2. Subscribe to membership in local and regional water conservation <br />organizations, such as the Metro Water Conservation lnc (MWCI). <br />Annual cost for MWCI is $100. <br /> <br />3. Distribute customer bill inserts on conservation annually to all <br />water customers. Topics should include leak detection, retrofitting <br />old plumbing fixtures, information on low-water landscapes, and <br />updates on water-conserving appliances. Approximate annual cost <br />of the brochures is $] ,200. <br /> <br />4. Arrange school programs to educate students on water <br />conservation. For example, students in the first grade could be <br />given coloring books; students in the fourth and fifth grades could <br />tour the raw water source and the treatment plant. In addition, they <br />could complete a home audit on their water usage. Results should <br />be compared with other classmates and suggestions for conserving <br />water discussed. <br /> <br />5. Submit articles on water conservation to the local newspaper, <br />especially during the spring and summer months. <br /> <br />6. Schedule Xeriscape seminars in the winter and early spring.
