<br />Innovation has been the hallmark of Denver's conservation programs. The "Xeriscape-
<br />Water Conservation TIlrough Creative Landscaping" public information program and the ET
<br />(Evapotranspiration) lawn watering program for Kentucky bluegrass were initiated by Denver
<br />Water and are now in common practice throughout the country. Since 1974 Denver's award
<br />winning animated fl1m, "Water Follies: A Soak Opera", has been shown in schools in the
<br />Denver area and countless others around the country. Creative conservation brochures, fl1ms,
<br />videos, speeches, exhibits, and contests all have contributed to the downward trend in water use.
<br />Although it is extremely difficult to discern which programs are responsible for precise amounts
<br />of savings, analysis reveals that collectively these efforts produce a reliable, significant increase
<br />in usable water by discouraging waste and encouraging wise water use.
