<br />..' <br /> <br />2.2 MONITORING, EVALUATION, AND PUBLIC RELATIONS PLAN: <br />The City will monitor water usage in the test site, Howelsen <br />Xeriscape Park, and compare it to a control site in the adjacent <br />Little Toots Park, which is a traditionally landscaped park area of <br />comparable size. The project will compare the test plot to the <br />control plot on the following variables: <br /> <br />identification of appropriate "unthirsty" plants, shrubs, and <br />trees for landscape projects on the Western Slope <br /> <br />preparation of planting medium, identifying optimum mix (of ~ <br />compost and soil) for water retention. <br /> <br />identification of optimum irrigation system and irrigation v <br />schedule <br /> <br />While the City has completed metering for all other water users", <br />parks usage has not been metered to date. Therefore, one component ~ <br />of this grant is to provide for the installation of wate~ meters in ' <br />both the Xeriscape Park and Little Toots Park. Lv (~ --~ <br />, ~- ~~, <br />project staff is committed to publicizing the impacts of both the <br />Indoor Plumbing Retrofit and Public Open Space Projects. <br />Information will be evaluated and used in: <br /> <br />1. Steamboat Springs Public Works Department public relations <br />program of proactive planning for metered water rates. Program <br />will be based on: <br /> <br />a. the NWCCOG project Indoor Plumbing Retrofit spreadsheet ~ <br />as a hands-on planning tool available for residential and <br />commercial users; and <br /> <br />b. Publication of a "user-friendly" Guide to Water Efficient- <br />Landscape in the Colorado Mountain communi ties, which <br />will provide information tailored for the Western Slope <br />and headwater communities; <br /> <br />2. The Guide will be available to other communi ties through their <br />local governments, public works departments, planning <br />departments, and parkS and recreation departments; <br /> <br />3. The Guide will be available for use and distribution by <br />private sector landscapers and nurseries. <br /> <br />4. Development of Steamboat Sprinqs Planninq Commission Landscape <br />Guidelines; <br /> <br />5. Information will be disseminated through local newspapers and <br />through the Northwest Colorado council of Governments. <br /> <br />6.
