1
I
I
I
I
I
I

STERLING WATER CONSERVATION PLAN

MAY 28, 1996

As of 1995, the City owns water in Sterling No. 1 & 2, Farmer's Pawnee, and
Springdale irrigation ditches. The City also owns two shares in the Morgan-Prewitt
Reservoir, and 55 acre-rights in the Logan Irrigation District. Some water rights cannot
be used for domestic use, but are used for raw water irrigation in parks and open
spaces. The City owns more water from irrigation ditch companies than it currently
uses and leases water to GASP. Ditch water is usually available from mid-May until the
end of September.

Water Production Study

It is important to note that the scope of this study regarding the capacity of the City
water production facilities is limited. Assumptions were made that the existing system
is capable of producing at capacity and that there no restraints due to inadequate water
quality or the condition of water facilities.

However, the City has hired Bishop-Brogden Associates to prepare a water production
study that will analyze those issues. The scope of this study includes: calculating
current water requirements, analyzing adjudicated or permitted well production
capacity, reviewing the capacity & condition of existing facilities, determining future
production requirements, analyzing yield of City's water rights, and projecting the ability
of water rights to meet future requirements.

I
1
I
I

__L_ __n --- _ _ ___ _ ____ __ _ _ _ ____ _________ ____ ____ _no. ___ __ ____ _____ _ _n _ 0

I
I
I
I
I
I

Page21
