Irrigation system <br /> <br />In 1990, about 1,000 square feet of medians will be upgraded, and thereafter about <br />50 square feet will be upgraded each year with trees and shrubs to be drip irrigated. The <br />City of Bouldcr has also assured somc Xeriscaping principles in its Land Usc Regulations, <br />Title 9, Chapter 3, Sections 22-24. <br /> <br />These codes assure efficient use of future landscaping for municipal rights-of-way and <br />othcr projects. Lands impacted include 50 acres of large parks, 50 acres of mcdians, 440 <br />acres of public schools, 250 acres of the City's many smaller parks, and landscaped areas of <br />future industrial parks. Pilot projects and studies have' shown that effective Xeriscaping can <br />reduce c:nerior water consumption by as much as 60 percent. Z The estimated savings in <br />irrigation water for Boulder's future municipal right-of-way projccts alonc is estimatcd to be <br />50 percent. <br /> <br />.7.1.10 EIwgy and Resource Conservation Option Points <br /> <br />This plUgIiIJJl require:; thal all. llC;W dwelling units, for which a building permit is <br />required, score a minimum of 20 points from the Energy-and Resource Conservation Option <br />List. Means of earning points by saving water include: <br /> <br />. Aerators and flow reducing showcrheads with reduction to no more <br />than 2-1/2 gallons per minute (gpm) to gain one point. <br /> <br />. Hot water pipe insulation of R-4 or better to gain one point. <br /> <br />. Efficient appliances: energy-saving dishwasher, energy-saving clothes <br />washer, energy-saving room, or central air conditioner to gain one point <br />for any two of these items. <br /> <br />. Toilets with 3.1-3.5 gallons per flush to gain one point. <br />. Toilets with 2.1-3.0 gallons per flush to gain two points. <br /> <br />. Xeriscape landscaping: organic material is added to soil and soil is <br />aerated; turf areas are reduced to a minimum; all planting beds are <br />mulched at time oi final inspection; low-water-demanding plants are <br />used appropriately; irrigation systems are zoned to separate turf from. <br />shrub areas and low-water-demand areas from high water demand <br />areas to gain: one point for two of the above. items; two points for <br />
