<br />Study Guidelines <br /> <br />Participants can select any landscape contractor to do the work or do it themselves, as long as it meets <br />these guidelines. <br /> <br />Soil DreDaration steDs <br />Group 1: <br />1. After construction of the home, the builder/developer completes the constructioniinish grade- <br />out (rough grade). <br /> <br />2. Cultivate the soil to a depth of at least four inches. This can be done by a variety or methods, <br />including rototilling, ripping, and/or discing. <br /> <br />3. If necessary, firm the soil back up partially with a roller or other implement. <br /> <br />4. Fine grade the soil. <br /> <br />Group 2: <br />1. After construction of the home, the builder/developer completes the construction finish grade- <br />out (rough grade). <br /> <br />2. Spread the composted manure uniformly over the area to be landscaped. <br /> <br />3. Cultivate the soil and work the composted manure thorougWy into the soil to a depth of at least <br />four inches. This can be done by a variety of methods, including rototilling, ripping, and/or <br />discing. <br /> <br />4. If necessary, firm the soil back up partially with a roller or other implement. <br /> <br />5. Fine grade the soil. <br /> <br />Soil amendment (GrouD 2 only) <br />1. A minimum of 3 cubic yards per 1000 square feet. This corresponds with an approximate one inch <br />depth. There is no maximum allowance. <br /> <br />2. The soil amendment needs to be composted manure or a "true" compost material. Local sources <br />include, but are not necessarily limited to, the following: any local nursery, A-I Organics, <br />Colorado Compost, Doug Weitzel Excavating and Supplies, Hageman, Inc., Padia Fertilizer, and <br />Stegner Brothers Dairy. If there are any questions about whether or not a particular product <br />qualifies, call Jim Clark at 221-6681. <br /> <br />Timing <br />1. The soil preparation needs to be completed during the period of September 1, 1992 to September <br />1, 1993. (If participants will be establishing their turfgrass by seed, the soil preparation needs to <br />be completed by May 31, 1993.) <br /> <br />2. Sod needs to be laid during the period of April 1 to September 1, 1993. If participants are <br />establishing their turfgrass by seed, it needs to be sown during the period of April 1 to May 31, <br />1993. <br /> <br />2 <br />
