For
example, oversized taps or increased main sizes are charged to the developer. Low
water use fixtures may eliminate or reduce these requirements and costs.

The school district has voluntarily installed automatic shut-off faucets. The junior college
uses low flow faucets and showerheads.

Low Water Use Landscaoes and Efficient Irrigation

The City constructed a xeriscape garden as part of a new park development in 1995.
Three water meters are used to compare the use of water to different areas of the park.
Water use is monitored monthly.

This year the wastewater plant upgraded some of its lawn area with a new, more
efficient sprinkler system. Some of this area was dedicated to xeriscape demonstration.

The public was actively involved in construction of both of these xeriscape areas.

Water Efficient Industrial and Commercial Processes

Three industries in town have wastewater reuse projects in place. Over the past three
years Dean Pickle and Specialty Products has voluntarily implemented three different
water reuse processes, including membrane filtration of its storage pickle brine.
DeBourgh Manufacturing uses a countercurrent rinsing process for its metal parts to
reduce water consumption, and Lewis Bolt & Nut incorporated a closed system for its
process cooling wateL

Water Reuse Systems

No other reuse systems are in place.

Distribution System Leak Repair

The City has a regularly scheduled line replacement program. Over the past ten years,
approximately 7 miles of water mainlines have been replaced. Service line leaks are
reported and repaired promptly. The Water Department maintains records on leak
repairs according to exact location and section of the system. This information is used
to determine problem areas.

5
