"

Pueblo State Park

County: Pueblo
Funding: $1,800
Start: 7/1/92
Status: Completed
The project for Lake Pueblo State Park demonstrates the potential water savings of using a soiar-operated irrigation system versus the
present manual system. The project included: installarion of two soiar-operated times, valves and controls into current manual sprin-
kler system to conserve water, to conserve manpower and improve tree health; monitoring water usage and system operation by
installing timers, valves and controls; publicity and promotion through press releases; and production of a fmal report that records
watering periods, any trouble with effects of auto watering on overall tree health, and an evaluation of the feasibility of expanding solar
system, including water saved and the effect of regulated water on overall tree health.

San Miguel County (Workshop)

County: San Miguel
Funding: $2,500
Start: 7/10/92
Status: Completed
The project consisted of three components - a guide, a conference and an exhibit- to educate citizens about water issues in the Upper
San Miguel River Basin, which has limited water resources and extensive proposed future development Through the Telluride
Institute, an objective, non-partisan and comprehensive view of water issues was presented in the guide. About 9,000 copies of the 20-
page guide were distributed regionally as a newspaper insen. The water conference and conservation exhibition were held at the July
1992 ~Ideas Festival" in Telluride. This event was free to the community. Approximately 75 people attended with a strong showing
of regional-decision trulkers and community leaders. A key product of the conference was to be the development of an options paper
outlining conservation and management measures appropriate to this region and situation which could be adopted by local govern-
ments.

Silt

County: Garfield
Funding: $15,915
Start: 7f31/92
Status: Completed
The goal of this project was to conven the entire community to water conserving plumbing fIXtures. About 500 packets of water sav-
ing plumbing devices and literature were distributed, 475 to residential homes. The installarion rate was 80%. The primary reasons
that some homes did not participate were incompatible plumbing systems or previous installation of special showerheads. Data col-
lection was inconclusive. Some slight water savings were realized from 1991-93, but water use rose in 1994. There is speculation,
which is difficult to verify, that the drought conditions may have caused the increase,
