acre feet of water per acre of park per year, A typical golf course applies
approximately 2,0 acre -feet per acre per year.

The plans for the new water treatment plant currently under construction
include a Xeriscape demonstration landscape, The Xeriscape landscape
will be used as an educational piece on future tours of the facility,

3, Water-efficient industrial and commercial water-using processes:

Table 1 lists the city's water use by classes, The commercial and
industrial use combined is approximately 15% of the total water
consumed compared to almost 69% for residential use, To date it has not
been cost effective for the city to directly pursue water use efficiency with
the commercial and industrial users, Three of Broomfield's large
manufacturing companies, Hunter Douglas, Geneva Pharmaceuticals and
Velie Circuits of Colorado, have voluntarily initiated water conservation
programs. A voluntary water audit program is being developed by city
staff to provide educational material to commercial and industrial users
upon request. The audit materials may be offered with the application for
an industrial pretreatment discharge permit and offered to current permit
holders on annual inspection visits by the industrial pretreatment
coordinator.

Chapters 13-12 and 13-28 of the Broomfield Municipal Code relate to
nonresidential sewer service charges, The City's Industrial Pretreatment
Program regulates all nonresidential users' discharges to the Wastewater
Treatment Facility, The program includes issuance of permits to non-
domestic users, authorizes monitoring and enforcement activities and
provides for setting of fees for the equitable distribution of costs resulting
from the program, The current rate study recommended significant
increases in the Industrial Pretreatment Program fees. The new fees and
surcharges are almost double the 1995 rates. Water reuse systems, both potable and nonpotable:

The replacement drinking water supply purchased for the Great Western
Reservoir Replacement Project originates from the Windy Gap Project
and is 100% consumable. Therefore, the effluent from Broomfield's
wastewater treatment plant which derives from Carter Lake may be put to
beneficial use, Broomfield is developing a wastewater reuse project using
both the existing water treatment plant and Great Western Reservoir,

15
