The City has integrated
them into its existing program in the following ways:

I. Water efficient fIxtures and appliances, including toilets, urinals, showerheads and
faucets;

The applicable City of Golden's Building Codes, based on the Uniform Plumbing Code
(IAPMO), encourages the use of water efficient plumbing fixtures and appliances in new
construction and remodels. Exceptions to these standards can be approved at the discretion of
the City Building Official.

According to the City's Plumbing Inspector, in the majority of instances, developers and
individuals voluntarily choose to use water efficient fixtures and appliances in new construction
and remodel. Records to document this are not available, at this time, due to limited staff
and budget constraints.

II. Low water- use landscapes and efficient irrigation;

The City of Golden's Environmental Services Division, offers seminars explaining and
encouraging efficient water use in landscape and gardens to individuals and businesses. These
seminars cover the basic tenets of xeriscaping, including design of a sensible plan, proper soil
preparation, mulching, plant and turf choices, optimizing efficient irrigation methods and
maintenance. Xeriscape seminars have been offered annually since 1993 and will continue as
long as there is community interest.

The following related educational materials developed by Environmental Services, in addition to
materials from several other sources(i.e CSU Cooperative Extension, National Xeriscape
Council, etc.) are made available to the public free of charge:
1. Xeriscape Gardening (B1UI.;hwe)
2. Water Conserving Grasses (Brochure)
3. A list of recommended reading and videos on the subject.
4. A list of demonstration gardens
5. Tours of Golden's Xeriscape Gardens (since 1993)

Xeriscape consultation with interested residents and businesses is and will continue to be
provided by City staff. The concept ofxeriscape is becoming increasingly popular with
homeowners in Golden. Several areas are in the beginning stages of retrofitting their original
landscaping designs to a xeriscape plan, including Kinney Run Town Homes and Canyon Point
Development.

-3-

,
____I
