<br />.' _ _ 'i- <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />(2) Integration of the program into the sixth grade will be relatively easy since one <br />of the principals of this project teaches to fifty percent of the sixth grade students in the district. <br />For the other grades, the affected teachers must be shown complete and effective activities for <br />their students before they will incorporate water education into their classes. By developing an <br />effective program for the sixth graders first, the means will be available to sell the progranl to the <br />other grades. <br /> <br />(3). School District 38 (Lewis-Palmer School District) is currently building a new <br />middle school. Construction has started and the school is expected to open for the 1994-95 school <br />year. The back property of this new school consists of a small drainage and wetland area that will <br />be incorporated into the water conservation education program. Students from the University of <br />Colorado at Colorado Springs are expected to survey the site and to develop very detailed maps <br />during the fall of 1993. Although these Illl!pS should be available during the 1993-94 school year, <br />the site will not be available to middle school until the following year. It is expected to have a draft <br />cuniculum for the sixth grade which will include class-tested activities by May 1994. This <br />cuniculum will be finalized and documented by May 95. Activities for the seventh and eighth <br />grades will start during the 1994-95 school year. <br /> <br />(4 ) Water testing will probably be accomplished by the students using equipment <br />and supplies bought from the Hach Company which is located in Loveland, Colorado. Some <br />training in the use of this equipment will be required and the training is available from the <br />company. Although cOlU"Ses are available throughout the year, it will be difficult to attend before <br />sununer 1994 due to conflicts with classroom responsibilities. This will delay serious water testing <br />until the 1994-95 school year. <br /> <br />C. The cuniculum will be prepared such that teachers may pick and choose the various <br />activities -- they will not have to complete the entire cuniculum. <br />
