But Boand <br />added that when operating and <br />maintenance costs were added in. <br />the amount saved by the program <br />was closer to $300,000. <br />"It is real money we're ~, <br /> <br />about," Boand said. <br />The town accomplished this feat <br />by reducing water use in irrigated <br />pUblic areas such as parks and on <br />street landscaping, and in other ar. <br />eas where the town is responsible <br />(Ot paying the water bin. <br />The conservation program coo- <br />cenlrated on 12 areas, and the re- <br />sulting savings is equal to about 42 <br />percent of the water used in those <br />areas in 1989. <br />The areas are: Founders Park <br />and North Enderud StreelSCape; <br />Castle Rock Ballfield$: Cenlennial <br />Park: - upper and lower ballfie1ds <br />and the lennis court area; Castle <br />Rock Community Recreation Ccn- <br />. ~ CilSJ.\e North ~; the north <br />-, ..,..' -." , <br /> <br />end of the Intcrstal.e 25 island i.rri- <br />gaUon; Triangle Parle; IraCI G of <br />Baldwin Park; Glo~ Tot Lot; <br />and the Castle Rock Maintenance <br />Shop. <br />Of these areas, the largest per. <br />cenlage of savings by area was the <br />maintenance shop which went from <br />using 115,()(X) gallons of water in <br />198910 21.000-gallans in 1990. <br />But by far the most significant <br />walet savings occurred in the <br />Founders Park. area.
