Il.........;I....U I .w' I

.,i'

l.'ackp'oun4

The Parker Water and Sanitation District (PWSD) provides water and wastewater services to
4500 single family equivalents (SFE's) in approximately 7500 acres of Northern Douglas
County. The district is located approximately five miles east of 1-25 on Cherry Creek and
approximately 20 miles south of Denver. The ultimate number of users is projected to be
23,000 SPE's.

PWSD's water needs are currently being met for the most part by Denver Basin Aquifer wells,
which currently only require chlorination for treatment. While the district has adequate
groundwater rights to last many years, this groundwater is not replenishable, therefore, the
district has begun a program of conjunctive use to augment its groundwater supply with a
renewable surface water ttansmission, storage and treatment project and with an extensive
wastewater reuse program.

Water use efficiency is an important component of PWSD's water supply planning. Reduced
water demands will decrease the amount of future water supply needs and, leaving more of a
finite and valuable re,o\n'ce to be shared among other water users. Water demand reduction will
also save tremendous amount of capital required to build water and wastewater treatment.
distribution, and collection facilities.

ConservatIon Measures

Parker Water and Sanitation District has a program to encourage its domestic, commercial,
industrial and public facilities customers to use water more efficiently, and will, not only
continue the program, but will strive to enhance it in the future.

The existing program includes:

1. Water-efficient jixrure.s

Through the Town of Parker's plumbing codes, the district requires all new and
replacement flush water closets. urinals. faucets and shower "....tls to he lnw w"t,,~ "ie-- -
fixtures, with 1.6 gallon per flush, 1 gpm urinals, and 2.5 gpm faucets and shower
heads, respectively at 80 psi.

2. Low-flow shower heads.

As a service to its customers. the district advertises and distributes free, 2.0 gpm low
flow shower heads.

3. Low-water lISe landscapes

The district encourages the use of low-water landscapes (xeriscapes) in all landscaping
projects. To promote this, it has constructed two xerlscape demonstntion projects in

Watsr Conservation Plan
ll:\lOOl\WI'liOIlOSlCONSBRV.PLN

Page 1
