.

.

.

3. What can we do:
A: The Town is looking at implementing regulations in
the new zoning ordinance requiring low usage fixtures on all
building, new and remodel,
B. We are recommending less grass and more zeroscape
landscaping with all new building permits and using the
outside water more conservative.
C, We are assisting in the proper selection and use of
sprinklers.
D: Encouraging more underground sprinklers which water
at night and will take less water,
E: The Town also has the plan that by 1998 all taps
including business will be metered.
F: The Town in it's economic development plans has made
one item very clear, that we want to have low water usage
type industry only.
G: We will have a line item in our 1996 budget for
conservation education(brochures, news articles, and material
for the school) of up to $500.

4) Goals: The goals of the Town are basically everything
discussed above, we want to be able to insure our residents
of a lasting supply of water by using all of the conservation
methods that are feasible for the Town to use. In addition
we want to: A: Strive for a 25% reduction in water usage by
1997.
B: Evaluate our water and wastewater needs on an
annual basis.
c: prepare a work plan on when and how projects
will be implemented and completed. (attached)
5) Benefits: As you can see by the attached usage report
the benefits have already started and we are very pleased at
this time. For the first 6 months we have attained a 38%
average reduction in water usage as compared with the average
of the 1st 6 months of the previous 3 years. I will continue
to send an annual report to your office for the next 2 years
to show you the benefits we are realizing. The main benefit
that the Town of Wiggins is striving for is to ensure the
residents of Wiggins a continued supply of drinking water by
extending the life of our existing supply by implementing a
variety of conservation
measures for the Town.

#~'~,

John C.
