These numbers were used to compute an overall average
for the general population. The average is a predicted reduction in water use of 17.7
percent, with 95 percent of the population expected to have a water savings between
14.5 and 20.9 percent.

Based on the results from the audit group, the above analysis indicates that 17.7 per-
cent reduction in water use could occur if the general population were to have retro-
fit devices installed. However, this result must be carefully used. Many variables
affect water use. While the analysis did reduce the number of variables by excluding
those homes that had a change in ownership during the analysis period, it does not
address many others. Such variables include a change in family size, change in water-
using appliances, a more conservative use of water due to raised awareness by hav-
ing the audit done and weather conditions. See Table 7 for estimated water savings
for the general population.

On December II, 1993, the City Focus advertisement featured an article as a follow-
up to the grant project. Called, Water Conservation for your Home, the article re-
ported the results of the retrofit project and outlined ways homeowners could
perform their own water use assessment and retrofit.
