The graph represents water production through the treatment <br /> <br /> <br />plant and shows the effects of both wet and dry years. <br /> <br />PURPOSE <br /> <br />The primary purpose of the City of Grand Junction's Water <br /> <br /> <br />Conservation Master Plan is to promote the efficient use of water <br /> <br /> <br />during times of plenty and to ensure a smooth transition to a <br /> <br /> <br />reduction in demand during times of. scarcity and drought. <br /> <br /> <br />Historically, the philosophy of the City of Grand Junction has <br /> <br /> <br />not discouraged the use of domestic water for residential irrigation <br /> <br /> <br />purposes. <br /> <br />CONSERVATION GOALS <br /> <br />The goals for City of Grand Junction's water conservation program are: <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Promote awareness, through education, that the Grand Valley <br /> <br /> <br />is situated at the edge of the upper Sonoran Desert life <br /> <br /> <br />zone and, as such, could be seriously affected by long-term <br />drought conditions in the future, as in the past. <br />Encourage wise use of water for ordinary household uses and <br />f-Ql;'-.QUt:~--.j,rrigation to a reasonable degree t<r-insure -.a--- <br />green and pleasant outdoor environment. <br />Plan for times of scarcity to insure minimum disruption and <br />a smooth transition to reduced consumption. <br />By wise and s,=lective use of water for specific functions, <br />preserve capacity in City's physical facilities, postponing <br />costly plant/facility enlargements. <br />Accommodate an awareness that water resources are available <br />or ought to be available for preservation of habitat, in- <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />13 <br />
