Water Conservation Practices Evaluated by Thornton

The following table lists water conservation practices that have been evaluated to
enhance Thornton's existing conservation program. Because Thornton's current program
is doing an excellent job of keeping water use rates low; the decision was made not to
implement these practices at the present time. These practices will regularly be evaluated
for their potential to contribute to the City's water conservation efforts.

The information in this section is based on the study conducted by HDR Engineering,
Inc. and Aquacraft, Engineering. A more detailed description of each of these practices
can be found on the next few pages.

Consultant-Reeommended Water Conservation Practiees

Name Description
Residential Water Surveys Perform indoor/outdoor water use surveys for single-family and
multifumily residential water customers.
Toilet Replacement Replace old toilets with ultra-low flush (ULF) models.
Residential Plumbing Retrofits Starting with homes using the highest volumes of water,
distribute low flow aerators, showerheads, and toilet
displacement devices.
Large Landscape Provide additional support and incentives for large landscape
Conservation irrigators to avoid waste.
High Efficiency Washing Provide rebates tD encourage installation of high efficiency
Machine Rebates clothes washers.
School Education Programs Educate studmts on hydrologic and water conservation issues.
Increase student awareness of water conservation practices in
their homes and communities.
CommerciallIndustriall Identify and rank commercial, industrial and institutional water
Institutiooal (Cll) conservation opportunities in the community.
Conservation Programs

Other practices to consider:

. -- - - - - ____ -Replacing in(;ffki"m-llWlillll\:es not .uIt,"Jy <;UVt""J by-otherpractices;n _n -- - - u - ,
.
