<br />The Citizen's Water Guide to the Upper San Miguel River ~Erin <br /> <br />Summary <br />Now is the critical moment for water resource management in the Upper San <br />Miguel River Basin, The basin has limited water resources and extensive present <br />and proposed future development" The river may already be over-allocated" No <br />one entity has a system's view of water complexities in the Upper San Miguel <br />River Basin" <br /> <br />The Citizen's Water Guide to the Upper San Miguel Basin will present an <br />objective, non-partisan and comprehensive view of water issues in the upper <br />basin. The guide will be distributed regionally as a newspaper insert" A water <br />conference and conservation exhibition scheduled to coincide with the publication <br />will engage water experts and citizens alike to develop water resource <br />management and conservation strategies for sustainable living in our own river <br />drainage, <br /> <br />The guide may serve as a model or prototype for other upper river basin <br />communities. <br /> <br />The Citizen's Water Guide to the Upper San Miguel Basin is a collaborative effort <br />between San Miguel County, The Telluride Institute and the Telluride Times- <br />Journal. <br /> <br />San Miguel County is the grant applicant" The Telluride Institute is a Colorado <br />non-profit research and education institution with programs in the arts, <br />environment, and information/communications, Since its inception in 1985, the <br />Institute has received national and international press acclaim, Funding sources <br />include The Pew Charitable Trusts, The Rockefeller Foundation, AT&T, The <br />National Endowment for the Arts and the United States Department of <br />Agriculture, The award-winning Telluride Times-Journal has been the County <br />Newspaper of Record for the past 30 years" <br /> <br />The total project cost is $8000, Of this amount, $5500 has already been committed <br />by local residents, governments and businesses" This request is for the balance <br />needed of $2500" The guide will be published in June 1992" <br /> <br />-1- <br />
