SECTION 2
HISTORICAL WATER CONSUMPTION

For several facilities, historical consumption was available as far back as 1989. The following
analysis will look at the trend in water use from 1992 -1994. Table 2-1 illustrates those trends.

Annual Water Consumption
(1000 Gallons)
F acility/Property 1992 1993 1994 Trend
Centennial Building 3,008 3,254 3,040 ~
State Capitol
State Office Buildings 8,709 8,309 8,223 ~
Division of Motor Vehicles 1,714 1,602 1,888 t
Lincoln Park 4,022 3,402 2,201 ~
Power Plant
State Annex
Legislative Services Buildings 4,064 4,345 4,200 t
Social Services Building 1,929 1,876 2,014 t
Social Services Parking Garage 70 107 58 ~
State Services Building 1,637 1,822 2,368 t
TOTALS 25,153 24,717 23,992 J.

Half of the surveyed properties show upward trends in consumption, while the other four show
a downward trend in consumption. Overall, water use has decreased from the base year of 1992
by 1,161,000 gallons per year, or almost 5%.

The most notable decrease in consumption is Lincoln Park which is adjacent to the State Capitol
building on the west side. Consumption has decreased by 45% since 1992. Lincoln Park water
use is entirely attributed to irrigation" Table 2-2 shows supplemental application rates in terms
of gallons per ft2 on an annual basis. With minimal effort, State of Colorado personnel can reduce
water use to 18 gallons per ft2, which is the recommended application rate for bluegrass in the
Colorado Front Range.

SECTION 2: HISTORICAL WATER CONSUMPtiON

4
