ATl'AC'FIMmI' B

Executive Summary
Westminster Reclaimed Water System
Preliminary Design Study

t INTRODUCTION

''''"''.....

_ The Westminster. Reclaimed Water System (WRWS) will be one of the largest examples of
conservation and wise stewardship of water resources in the State of Colorado and the western
United States. It will ultimately deliver up to 3,700 acre-feet of reclaimed water to irrigate large
public turf areas such as golf courses and parks, and provide water for lakes, ponds, and wetlands.
With design of all system components beginning in June 1996, an initial I, I 00 acre-feet phase will
be in service in the summer of 1999. The irritial 1,100 acre- feet phase is planned to serve Legacy
Ridge Golf Course, Countrydale Golf Course, Hyland Hills Golf Course, City Park, and
Westmirrster City HaiL The WRWS will reduce demands orr the potable water system and
- promote the wise and efficient use of a scarce natural resource. The water being reclaimed would
otherwise be discharged to Big Dry Creek.

II. SITE IDENTIFICATION

A total of 195 existing and proposed sites that could be irrigated with reclaimed water were
identified and evaluated. 104 o[those sites are controlled by the City of Westminster and 91 sites
are controlled by other entities. Seventy percent (70%) of the acreage and possilrle reclaimed
water use is accounted for by' golf courses and parks. Historic water use information was
collected and evaluated for each site to estimate irrigation requirements. Approximately 5,400
acre-feet of possible reclaimed water use was iderrtified, which exceeds the amount of wastewater
that will be available for reclamation.

Final: August 6, 1996

ES-I

.
