<br />I <br /> <br />MONITORING: An ongoing process to assess results of an effort. Steps <br /> <br /> <br />in the process include identifying what will be measured, what <br /> <br /> <br />assumptions will be held, what estimates are agreed on, what <br /> <br /> <br />measuring tools will be used. <br /> <br /> <br />MULTI-FAMILY RESIDENTIAL: A planning term used to describe a building <br /> <br /> <br />where two or more families live in separate units under one <br /> <br /> <br />common roof, for example, apartment houses, townhomes, <br /> <br /> <br />condominiums. <br /> <br />OBJECTIVES: Specific operational aims quantified in an annual action <br />plan; statements must include specifically who will do precisely <br />what, by when, and at what cost. <br />PROGRAMS: An ongoing effort to achieve a goal, usually involving <br />several projects; e.g., a conservation program may include a <br />metering project, a retrofit project, and a landscape project. <br />PROJECT: Systemized efforts to achieve an objective. <br />PROJECTED SAVINGS: An estimate of the amount of water which will be <br />conserved because suppliers and customers are implementing <br />certain efficiency practices. <br />RETROFIT: An umbrella term which refers to the modification of <br />something. (See also conservation.) <br />SUSTAINABILITY: A decision-making concept describing development that <br />meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability <br />of future generations to meet their owner needs. <br />UNACCOUNTED-FOR WATER: A term used to describe the various ways water <br />is difficult or impossible to measure such as under-registration <br />of aging water meters, leaks, fire suppression, and water used in <br />flushing the distribution system through fire hydrants. <br /> <br />21 <br />
