<br />nJ <br /> <br />GLOSSARY <br /> <br />ACRE FEET: A measurement to describe a volume of water. One acre- <br /> <br />foot is the amount of water which would cover one acre of land to <br /> <br />a depth of one foot: 325,851 gallons or 43,560 cubic feet. <br /> <br />ACTION PLAN: A more detailed, analytical course of action to <br /> <br />I <br />_I <br /> <br />implement concepts outlined in a Master Plan, usually set up on a <br /> <br />12-month basis, having staffing and budget allocated to achieve <br /> <br />specific objectives. <br /> <br />CONSERVATION: A set of strategies to solve the dilemma of providing <br /> <br />water to people, both through supply management (in which the <br /> <br />utility maximizes efficient use of water) and through demand <br /> <br />management (in which the customers practice efficient use); wise, <br /> <br />efficient use by suppliers and customers. <br /> <br />(See also demand <br /> <br />management and supply management.) <br /> <br />DEMAND MANAGEMENT: Methods to encourage customers to reduce their <br /> <br />water demands thus using water efficiently. <br /> <br />(See also <br /> <br />conservation.)
