<br />L.... <br /> <br />5 <br /> <br />3.2 Conservation Measures <br /> <br />1. Water rate Structures: Although not enough time has elapsed since the change <br />from a flat rate structure to an increasing block structure, the District would <br />make changes to the current system if water usage patterns are not changed. <br /> <br />2. Education/Dissemination of Information: The District will continue its practice <br />of water use education in the quarterly newsletters. The continuing landscaping <br />of the remaining medians in the District will only use xeriscape landscaping. <br /> <br />3. Low Water Use Fixtures: No new construction in EI Paso County is approved <br />without the use of low flow fixtures which includes all indoor fixtures, <br />showerheads, toilets and faucets. <br /> <br />4, Leak Repair and Detection: Cherokee wi II contract agai n in 1999 with a company <br />to do a leak detection survey. One of the major causes of wasted water is <br />residential toilets. The District last year, and will continue to provide dye kits <br />to let homeowners and commercial establishments see if they have a problem <br />toilet, <br /> <br />5. Efficient Landscape Irrigation: The District will continue its demonstration <br />xeriscape landscaping in the remaining medians. There will be no watering <br />allowed between 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p,m, <br /> <br />6, Water Re-Use Systems: The use of treated wastewater is currently not cost <br />effective. The District now has a water lir,e running from the airport east to <br />. our sout_h~rn y...~I! field in the Upp~r Blac~ Squirrel Basin. It is th~_ul.tim.a!e goal <br />of the District to, after the wastewater is treated to a higher level of <br />treatment, pump this water back to the Basin and in essence, make a closed <br />system. <br /> <br />SECTION 4. PUBUC PROCESS <br /> <br />A water conservation plan will be available for comment by the public at the <br />District's offices, 1335 Valley Street or by calling 597-5080 to obtain a copy.
