\
l
I
I
1
.1

liB 1154 CONSERVATION MEASURE #2

Landscapes and Irrigation

Description of Conservation Measure:
Low water-use landscapes and efficient irrigation

Existing Conditions:
The District currently encourages a voluntary every third day watering practice, evapo-transpiration
index for lawn watering needs, and provides a watering schedule calendar each spring. From 1978
to 1988 the District had mandatory watering restrictions.

I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I

Future Implementations:
The District will continue to promote voluntary landscape irrigation restrictions. Lawn watering in
the afternoon hours when the climate is generally hotter, drier, and windier will be discouraged to
provide better irrigation efficiency. Also, lawn watering in the mid-evening is discouraged to level
off the peak daily demand. The absence of lawn watering between the hours of I :00 P.M. and 6:00
P.M. will promote both benefits. Lawn watering restrictions will only be mandatory under the
circumstances of a drought or an emergency. The voluntary restrictions; however, will be promoted
by the District.

Xeriscaping is emphasized by the District in its Newsletter. The District will encourage a xeriscape
approach toward new residential development as well as public landscaping. .

8
