SECTION 1_ BACKGROUND

The City of Craig Water Department provides potable
drinking water to the citizens of the City and to a limited
number of Moffat County residents who live or have
businesses near the corporate limits of the City. The Craig
Water Department provides water to serve 2465 residential
metered units, 306 non-residential units, and 201 master
meters which serve an additional 1266 residential units.
Water connections outside of the corporate limits of
the City (Moffat County) include 94 residential units and 3
non-residential units.

SECTION II. SUPPLY AND STORAGE

WATER TREATMENT

The Craig Water Treatment Plant, built in 1983, has a
rated capacity of 7.6 million gallons per day CM.G.D.J. In
addition, the original water treatment plant has been
maintained in operating condition and serves as a back-up to
the newer facility. The old plant has a capacity of 2.4
M.G.D. and can operate in conjunction with the newer plant
if necessary.
With an average demand of 1.2 M.G.D., the Water
Treatment plant is more than capable of meeting the water
needs of the consumers. Water demand in the summer can reach
as high as 5 million gallons per day. During the winter
months, however, demand may be as low as 600,000 gallons per
day. Under current growth projections the facility should
continue to meet the community's water demands well into the
future.

WASTEWATER TREATMENT

The Wastewater Treatment Plant was also built in 1983
and is equally capable of meeting the demands of Craig and
nearby Moffat County well into the future. The plant is
currently running on one half of its full operating
capacity.

WATER RIGHTS AND RAW WATER STORAGE

Raw water supply is collected from the Yampa River and
Fortification Creek. However, the City of Craig also owns an
additional 1668 acre-feet of raw water storage located in
the Elkhead Reservoir. Elkhead Reservoir is located
approximately 5 miles northeast of the City. Water from the
reservoir can be released should drought conditions delete
the Yampa River supply. The City of Craig purchased its
share of the Elkhead Reservoir from the colorado Division of
wildlife in 1991 and has plans to expand the size of the
reservoir which may increase the amount of raw water
available for municipal use in the future.

Page 1
