In addition, it provides an overview of the ongoing artificial recharge demonstration
project and the results of previous studies investigating water reclamation as an alternative
supply source.

Water Supply Management

The Centennial Water and Sanitation District maintains facilities to supply both surface
waters and groundwaters to Highlands Ranch. The District has a long-term agreement with the
City of Englewood for utilizing some of its surface supply and storage in McLellan Reservoir.
In addition, the District is pursuing the development of an aquifer storage and recovery project
as an alternative to additional surface storage. This project is in ongoing stages of development.

Near-term objectives of the District include:

.

Using existing developed groundwater and surface water supplies to the
furthest extent possible.

..

Developing plans to expand a conservation program and an artificial
groundwater recharge program.

.

Updatjng demand projections to better represent expected growth trends.

.

Ensuring that both groundwater and surface supplies are the highest
quality and are protected from outside contaminants.

Augmentation Plan

An Augmentation Plan effectively increases the beneficial use of limited water resources
of the state by reusing or recycling replacement water. Replacement water generally includes
non-tributary groundwater return flows, historical consumptive use water, transmountain water,
and stored water. Replacement water has not been historically present in the South Platte River.

21~1
