East Cherry Creek Valley Water & Sanitation District
Water Conservation Plan

+ The District manager has spoken at several high school classes regarding water
supply including the need for conservation.
+ Th~ District's newsletter has included several articles regarding the
nonreplenishable nature of the District's water supply and the resulting need for
conservation.
+ As part of the bi-monthly water billing system, excessive consumption is
recognized. Meter readers are sent to locations to identify possible internal leak
problems.

5. Water/Wastewater rate structures
+ The District's efforts to date to encourage water conservation have been primarily
in the realm of utilizing rate structures, i.e., an inverted block rate structure, to
discourage water use. The rate differential between the use categories has been
expanded from ten cents in 1992 to the present ninety cents.

6. Other water management activities
+ The District is a member of the American Water Works Association, Metro Water
Conservation Inc., and the Special District Association.
+ A state of the art supervisory control and data acquisition system (SCAD A) was
installed in 1992 to assist water operators in efficiently meeting water demands and
reducing system losses.
+ The District has added sequestering agents to the water supply to control
discoloration caused by iron and manganese. While previously the District utilized
a substantial flushing program to address this issue, the sequestering have
permitted a substantial reduction in water used for flushing.

3
