<br />XERISCAPE: <br />In 1986 the City installed a demonstration garden on 1/3 acre in front of City Hall. Tours <br />of the garden and workshops on xeriscape are provided as part of the public education <br />program. Educational signage and brochure dispensed on-site allow for self-guided tours <br />365 days per year. <br /> <br />REUSE: <br />There is an agreement among the City, the Platte River Power Authority and Water Supply <br />and Storage (a local irrigation company) to reuse 4200 acre-feet of sewage effluent at the <br />Rawhide Power Plant (a local coal-fired electrical generation plant) in exchange for <br />additional water supplies. <br /> <br />RAWWAlER: <br />Approximately 70% of the irrigated acreage of city parks, medians, golf courses, and <br />cemeteries is irrigated with nonpotable "raw" water. <br /> <br />LEAK DElECTION: <br />A leak detection program utilizes $50,000 worth of sonar leak detection equipment and the <br />part-time; year-round efforts of two employees. The goal is to cover the entire distribution <br />network every two years. <br /> <br />RESEARCH PROmerS: <br />A water rate study, drought study, and water demand options study have been completed <br />in the last several years. <br />
