_I
\
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I
I

B. For Water Quality
In addition to using existing groundwater resources for industrial and park
irrigation purposes, the City will also have to use well water to blend with its surface
water supply during periods of peak demand. To provide Fort Lupton water
customers with high quality water, the blending rate must be kept to the lowest
possible. Managing demand will make this goal possible.

C. For the Environment
By managing water use, the City will be able to save on the power required
to pump and treat its water, thereby decreasing its demand on fossil fuels, thus
indirectly decreasing air pollution. Also, by decreasing its groundwater usage, the
aquifer level can be better managed and maintained. In addition, one reason for the
high nitrate concentration in the City's groundwater is excess fertilizer. By
coordinating the water use efficiency plan with fertilizer use education, the City can
help mitigate groundwater pollution. Finally, water use efficiency can help encourage
the use of native vegetation for landscaping, thus decreasing the reliance on water
resources to support nonnative vegetation types.

D. ' For Individuals

I
I
I
I
1
!
l

By using water more efficiently, individual water customers in Fort Lupton will
realize the following benefits:

. The individual water customer will realize cost savings, since water billings
are based on metered water usage. The higher the water use, the higher the
, water bill. Since sewer bills are also based on water usage, the individual
customer will also realize a cost savings in this portion of its utility bill.

- - - - - - - - -- -.- - -FeF--tlleSll -wile-mast-maintain lawns- ftflt!-tandseaping, -Iower-water-use-
landscaping schemes could mean less maintenance.

125325,100; 05114/%}

4
