CONCLUSION <br /> La Plata County and the City of Durango have achieved strong growth with <br /> a broader economic base built on tourism and recreation utilizing the area's natural <br /> amenities and on small businesses attracted by the areas quality of life, and the <br /> more traditional sectors of oil and gas development and agriculture. Economic <br /> indicators such as sales tax receipts and net migration have shown upward trends <br /> since 1988. The economy seems poised for continued growth based primarily on <br /> the positive social and environmental factors which result in a high quality of life. <br /> In 2002, sales indicated a good market for commercial and light industrial <br /> land and improvements.
