A DNR COLORADO <br /> "v <br /> CO 1 Colorado Water <br /> Conservation Board <br /> Department of Natural Resources <br /> 1313 Sherman Street, Room 718 <br /> Denver, CO 80203 <br /> Memorandum <br /> To: Tom Browning, Deputy Director cin <br /> From: Becky Mitchell V6\•Z <br /> Kevin Reidy Et Ben Wade <br /> Water Supply Planning <br /> Date: June 10, 2016 <br /> Subject: Water Efficiency Grant Fund Recommendation for the City of Aspen <br /> Recommendation: <br /> The Water Supply Planning staff recommends that Tom Browning, Deputy Director, <br /> approve a Water Efficiency Grant to develop Water Efficient Landscape Regulations, in <br /> the amount of $42,515 for the City of Aspen. <br /> Summary of Grant Application <br /> The City of Aspen is a covered entity a has a Water Efficiency Plan on file with the <br /> CWCB since October 2015. The City is interested in developing new water efficient <br /> landscape regulations to promote more conservation, prevent water waste a protect <br /> water quality for the residents and tourists who visit during the summer when water <br /> demand is at its peak. The City would like to update its municipal code to include <br /> more robust landscaping a irrigation system requirements and enforcement <br /> mechanisms. To lead by example, Aspen will also implement water budgets for three <br /> city parks and other irrigated areas to help guide the new landscape regulations as <br /> well as devote some public space to demonstrate xeric landscaping materials through <br /> the Garden In A Box program. Aspen will monitor a evaluate water usage in these <br /> public areas for three years after installation. <br /> The total cost of the project is $67,425. Aspen is committing 37% matching funds in <br /> the form of $12, 510 of in-kind services and $12,400 in cash. CWCB staff has reviewed <br /> and evaluated the grant application and has determined that the proposal meets or <br /> exceeds the CWCB guidelines for reviewing grant proposals.
