Project Description
The Company considered the following Project alternatives:
Alternative 1 - No-Action: This alternative was considered undesirable as it does not meet the
Company's goal of reducing the risk of Ditch washouts requiring emergency repairs, nor does it reduce
salinity or selenium loading to the Colorado River System.
Alternative 2 - Pipe the Ditch with HDPE pipe: This alternative considered replacing all 2.7 miles of
unlined ditch with High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) pipe but was rejected due to higher material cost
and limited availability of pipe welding equipment required versus Alternative 3.
Selected Alternative 3 - Pipe the Ditch with PVC pipe: This alternative will replace all 2.7 miles of
unlined ditch with 18-inch to 24-inch diameter polyvinyl chloride (PVC) pipe. Existing structures,
including four inlet structures and four outlet structures, will be replaced. Costs for the selected
alternative are shown in the following table:

NRCS funding is all in-kind. Salinity Control Program funds will be disbursed throughout the
construction process as will the CWCB funds. Disbursements will be made on a pro rata basis per each
pay request as 71% Salinity Control Program, 14% CWCB loan, and 15%WSRA grants.
Permitting: All easements and right-of-ways have been secured. The Company expects to be exempt
from 404 permitting by statutory exemption, 33 CFR Section 323.4(a)3. This exemption will be
confirmed with the Army Corps of Engineers.
Schedule: NRCS expects to complete the final design by August 2016. Construction will follow in the
fall of 2016 with completion by spring of 2017.
