Task 2: Continue to work with Tami Graham and oversee her work for the
Piedra Workgroup.
* Met 12 times engaging more than 125 individuals, groups and interests.
* Participated in a field trip in October 2011 and September 2012.
* Developed a values statement:
http://ocs.fortlewis.edu/riverprotection/piedra/resourceDocuments.htm
* Developed an Information Sheet, which was reviewed and updated on
numerous occasions:
http://ocs.fortlewis.edu/riverprotection/piedra/resourceDocuments.htm
* Heard presentations relevant to the Piedra focus area, including water law
and issues, wild and scenic river issues, and recreation use and patterns.
* Conducted a segment-by-segment analysis (including Weminuche Creek,
Williams Creek, East Fork, Middle Fork, and Main Stem), listing current
protections, values and threats.
* Consensus to take a watershed approach.
* Consensus to recommend no new major impoundments
* Now in process of looking closer at identified values on each segment and
whether or not current protection tools are perceived as adequate. This
will help identify if any new tools are to be explored.
Task 3: Continue to work with the RPW Steering Committee to plan Phase II
which is the Regional Discussion and bring these discussions to a close in
2012.
* The RPW Steering Committee has met in two separate retreats in 2012 to
plan the "Regional Discussion." Both sets of minutes are available upon
request. A one-page description of the Regional Discussion is below.
* The RPW has continued to fulfill all of the goals in the original work plan
submitted to the CWCB. Additional funding in 2012 has been raised
from:
Southwestern Water Conservation District; San Juan Citizens Alliance;
and Trout Unlimited — Five Rivers Chapter.
2
