• S
Note the data originally came from the hydrologic model developed and used for the Colorado
Springs Utility Southern Delivery System EIS.
• Download, organize and review BuRec data.Compare to data previously provided by BuRec-Pueblo
office.Communication with BuRec-Pueblo office,Teresa Dawson,regarding sources of data,
analyses behind the data,et cetera all in the goal of coloring Pueblo Reservoir inflows(i.e.,FryArk,
Twin Lakes Canal Company and native inflows)to improve model representation of the upper part
of the model network.
• Ongoing review of model input(streamflows, diversions, reservoir contents and calculated
baseflows)through different reaches of model domain in effort to reduce extent of calculated losses
in the river system.Baseflow losses of significant magnitude prevent the model from simulating
direct flow and storage diversions. These limitations make it difficult to calibrate model to historical
conditions.
• Preliminary efforts at disaggregating total diversion records into colors of water with different
consumptive use rates and return flow locations and timing(e.g.,for irrigation;for storage;for
recharge and for augmentation).
Comments/Concerns/Schedules
The last two bullets above are the big sticking points on the model development and form the focus
of data gathering I hope to have completed next month-see the Recommendations for Scope of
Work,Approach,Schedule,Budget,et cetera in the Agreement for Professional Services emailed to
you on June 17,2013 and which we both signed when we met yesterday at Sassafras Restaurant.
I have come up with some ideas for getting Joe started with moving from a design civil engineering
background to a water resources focus.
• First would be to have Joe review some basic water resources information from an
Introduction to Water Resources class previously taught by Cheryl Signs. This should be
helpful with definitions and basic concepts, including the general water budget approach that
defines historical use analysis, divertible yield estimates,et cetera.
• Second would be to have Joe review our Agreement for Professional Services. This would
be helpful to help him focus on what we are trying to achieve with the Scope of Work, the
modeling/data issues that have been identified and what we are trying to achieve with the
meetings to be scheduled with the ditch and reservoir company representatives in the Lower
Arkansas Valley.
Depending on what else you have planned for him,Joe might start reviewing these documents his
first week of work with the District. Joe and I could then meet to discuss this information as a
prelude to touching base with the ditch and reservoir company representatives. I think this might fit
well with getting the schedule moving. We can hopefully get all the meetings scheduled and
completed and receive the data we are looking for within the next month.
Tell me what you think about this approach. Is the District's address in Rocky Ford the best place to
send the basic water resources information?
BUDGET—I provided the delivery dates to Adaptive Resources for the outstanding invoices in the
table on the previous page to help Brenda discern what the District has paid Heath for my services,
what payments are outstanding, etc. On a related note, I did talk with Andy Moore yesterday after
you and I met.
ParsonsWater Consulting,LLC 4729 W32nd Ave,Denver,CO 80211 303.667.5067 Page 2
