The EA Bypass agreement was also established and Central increased the amount of
regulation space available for the pulse flow from 4,000 acre -feet (af) to 6,000 of of
regulation in Johnson Lake.
Jerry Kenny updated the group about Program activities. Jerry stated that everything is in
place and the Program is ready for a pulse flow event. Jerry noted that the Shelton and
Lexington gauging stations were in place and thanked Tom Hayden and his staff for
getting those stations installed.
Jerry then talked about the natural pulse flow event that happen in late May and into early
June. He mentioned that the ED office did some monitoring and data collection of the
event. They also got aerial photographs along with the USGS collecting some data for a
few sites from before and after the event.
Jerry then discussed the North Platte Choke point issues in more detail than prior in the
discussions. Jerry pointed out that the flood stage actually increased at North Platte but
the corresponding flow decreased. The new flood stage was determined after the
National Weather Service inspected the area during high summer flows. The stage was
set due to lowland flooding downstream of the Cody Park bridge on a boat ramp. The
group then got into discussions about possible problems at the current chokepoint site,
other possible choke points and the large amount of phragmites downstream of the
bridge. Jerry finished the choke point conversation by telling the group that the upstream
landowner had changed his mind and now would not let the Program remove the sand bar
upstream of the bridge.
Jerry completed his discussions telling the group that the ED Office was working on the
Water Management Projects by looking for facilities to store excess river flows and
getting the Water Action Plan going.
The spring meeting will be held April 15th at the Game and Parks Visitor Center at Lake
McConaughy.
The meeting adjourned at 11:30 MST.
11
