To Tom Browning, Assistant Director From: Becky Mitchell Kevin Reidy Et Ben Wade Water Supply Planning 7/307 Date: July 28, 2014 Subject: Water Efficiency Grant Fund Recommendation for the City of La Junta Recommendation: The Water Supply Planning staff recommends that Tom Browning, Assistant Director, approve a Water Efficiency Grant to develop a Water Conservation Plan in the amount of $16,200 for the City of La Junta. Summary of Grant Application The Water Supply Planning staff received a Water Efficiency Grant application from the City of La Junta requesting $16,200 to develop a Water Conservation Plan. La Junta is a covered entity located in the Arkansas Basin. Water conservation planning has progressed over the years due to local and regional planning efforts supported by CWCB a the Bureau of Reclamation. A system wide water audit conducted by Southeastern Colorado Water Conservancy District in 2011 helped the City improve characterization of its water loss, data collection and organization efforts. The City has also recently expanded its water supply distribution system to provide neighboring municipalities an additional source of potable water improving their system reliability. Updating La Junta's conservation plan will continue to improve data collection a water loss control and leak mitigation programs. La Junta estimates they will reduce water use by 5% over the next ten years. The total cost of the project is $22,500. La Junta is committing 28% matching funds in the form of $1,650 in cash Et $4,650 of in-kind services. CWCB staff has reviewed and evaluated the grant application and has determined that the proposal meets or exceeds the CWCB guidelines for reviewing grant proposals.
