R E S O L U T I O N
A RESOLUTION ENDORSING AND RECOMMENDING FOR CONSTRUCTION THE
PROPOSED FLOOD PROTECTION PROJECT ALONG FOUNTAIN CREEK AT PUEBLO,
COLORADO.
WHEREAS, by the 1974 Water Resources Development Act, the
Congress of the United States authorized the United States Army
Corps of Engineers to perform flood control studies within the
Arkansas River Basin; and
WHEREAS, the District Engineer, United States Army Corps of
Engineers, Albuquerque District, Albuquerque, New Mexico, has
formulated a plan of improvement, which plan consists of levees
and channel alterations along Fountain Creek in Pueblo, Colorado;
and
WHEREAS, the proposed plan has the support of the City of
Pueblo, the Fountain Creek Commission-, and local citizens, as
expressed during the public hearing for the project on January 10,
1980; and •
WHEREAS, the Colorado Water Conservation Board recognizes
that the plan will create substantial benefits through the alle-
viation of flooding and flood damages; and
WHEREAS, the Colorado Water Conservation Board has the
statutory responsibility to encourage and assist local units of
government to minimize hazards to life and property from floods;
and
WHEREAS, the Colorado Water Conservation Board desires the
earliest possible construction of the flood protection project for
Fountain Creek as formulated by the United States Army Corps of
Engineers;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Colorado Water
Conservation Board in regular meeting assembled in Denver, Colorado,
on this 30th day of January, 1980, that it does endorse and
recommend that said flood protection project be authorized for
construction by the Congress of the United States; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Board is
directed to send a certified copy of this resolution to the
District Engineer, U. S. Army Corps of Engineers, Albuquerque
