COLOP.ADC WATER
SUBJECT- MANAGEME T PLANS FOR SECEIT F;I$VP ,I - LIAISON WITH WATER USERS
On February 8, 1985, I met with water attorneys representing the Denver
Water Department, Northern Colorado Water Conservancy District, and the Rio
Grande Water Conservancy District to discuss the designation and management
of threatened and endangered fish species. Denver staff attending the meet-
ing included Eddie Kochman, Pete Barrows and Jim Bennett. The Office of
Attorney General was represented by Mr. Larry DeClaire. The meeting was
productive in establishing both a dialogue and a joint commitment that the
Division of Wildlife and water developers would cooperate in the future
regarding management of fish species of special concern.
The water users, through the Colorado Water Congress, have selected Mr.
Bennett Raley to maintain liaison with the Division in the development and
implementation of management plans for selected fish species. I am pleased
with the cooperation and as a member of the law firm of Davis, Graham &
Stubbs, Mr. Raley has knowledge of the concerns associated with the fish
species involved. It will be the future responsibility of the Division to
prepare and jointly review management plans for the following fish species:
Species Recovery Plan Responsibility
Common Shiner NE and Central Regions
Northern Redbelly Dace NE and Central Regions
Southern Redbelly Dace SE Region
Arkansas River Darter SE Region
Rio Grande Sucker SW Region
Rio Grande Cutthroat SW Region (Update existing plan)
Colorado.
